Since its inception over 80 years ago, Caterpillar has grown to be the world's largest maker of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines and industrial gas turbines. In partnership with the Company’s worldwide dealer network, they drive positive and sustainable change on every continent. Caterpillar products and components are manufactured in 49 US facilities and in 59 other locations in 22 countries around the globe.
The Company has been serving customers in the UK and continental Europe since the early 1900s. The UK now employs more than 10,000 people. Caterpillar delivers products, services and technologies in three principal lines of business: Machinery, Engines and Components.
A new opportunity has arisen for a Patent Attorney to join the Caterpillar Intellectual Property Department which provides services to business units across the EAME region. The appointee will report to the UK based Corporate Counsel, IP, who in turn reports to Caterpillar’s Chief IP Counsel in the US. This is a key role for the Company and plays an important part in their strategy to further enhance their in-house IP ‘Centre of Excellence’. Caterpillar offers strong career development programs, a flourishing worldwide presence, and unmatched technological expertise.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a large patent portfolio for the Engines business sector as well as a portfolio within the Machinery business sector. Finals standard applicants will also be given due consideration. You should be an innovative thinker capable of devising new ways of obtaining patent protection and be able, as an IP advisor, to add value through the utilisation of IP Rights to the business unit client. You should also be a team player with highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
