The Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR) plays a key role in the organisation’s success by championing the drug discovery process, and pursuing a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach that integrates novel concepts and tools across multiple disease areas. Over the past few years, NIBR has been the company with the greatest number of new molecular entities approved by the FDA for clinical use in the US, and their scientists are dedicated to ensuring that this market-leading position is maintained.

NIBR places great value on its Intellectual Property assets; the protection, extension and commercial exploitation of its patents is central to the company’s ambitious growth strategies. Having recently undertaken a review of its business operations, the IP Function is looking to recruit an experienced high-calibre European Patent Attorney to support the NIBR projects within the biotechnology arena.

Combining patent duties with an internal advisory function, you’ll attend business unit meetings and key strategic decision forums. You will also provide input into the licensing team through evaluation, negotiation and, when appropriate, drafting of agreements. This is a global role that will see you liaising with a wide range of colleagues at other NIBR sites.

A qualified European Patent Attorney with a degree in Biochemistry or Biology, you will possess an in-depth understanding of the technical aspects of the patent discipline. Ideally, you will also possess a doctorate in a relevant subject. Furthermore, written and oral fluency in English will be essential, as are the judgement skills and technical acumen needed to capture an invention.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious and career-conscious patent professional, who wishes to join a global organisation, operating at the forefront of pioneering technology.
