Our client, ASML, is world’s leading provider of lithography systems for the semiconductor industry - with a global market share of over sixty-five percent. Headquartered in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, ASML currently employs more that 6700 people, across sixty locations in fifteen countries, to design, develop, manufacture, market and service an integrated portfolio of semiconductor manufacturing products.
The environment in which ASML operates is extremely competitive, and hence the company’s IP portfolio is critical to gaining an edge. This, together with the ‘revolutionary’ nature of the technology, makes the work of the Corporate Intellectual Property (CIP) department high profile and both challenging and rewarding. To further strengthen its position, the CIP department requires an additional Patent Attorney to join the team.
The successful candidate will join the global department of about twenty IP attorneys located at sites in the Netherlands, USA and Japan and will be responsible for a specific area of technology. Expected to act as a business liaison responsible for the strategic patent advice of a particular Product Group, the appointee will work closely with R&D, Marketing and Legal functions. In addition attorneys will carry out the full range of patent work, working closely with fellow members of the CIP department to ensure an increasing awareness of the international markets in which they operate.
The appointee will possess an excellent first degree in Physics, Electronics, Mechanics or a related discipline, and be a fully qualified National or European Patent Attorney. Due to the nature of the role previous experience as a research engineer would be advantageous.
In light of the current breadth of expertise within the department, this role has the capacity to adopt a number of professional roles and different level and types of experience can be accommodated. Furthermore the department can offer excellent career progression; whether that is towards future management or along a patent professional route.
