The first Intellectual Property (IP) firm founded in Belgium, Kirkpatrick SA/NV has been in operation since 1852 and, always at the forefront of developments, was also the first Belgium firm to be certificated ISO 9001:2000 in 2004.

A medium-sized full-practice IP firm with forty staff, Kirkpatrick devises IP strategies for its clients and protects, defends and adds value to their Patents, Trademarks, Designs, Domain Names and Copyrights. Kirkpatrick also drafts and negotiates Licensing agreements and assists in Audit and Due Diligence assessments.

 

To ensure continuity of service in the face of planned retirements, the firm now requires a European Patent Attorney to join its Mechanical and Electronics team to handle subject matter such as Mechanical, Medical Equipment, Construction, Packaging and Information Technology. 

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for servicing the needs of an existing client portfolio – including drafting, filing and prosecuting UK, European and PCT Patent applications; providing advice on all aspects of patent validity, infringement and litigation, both in the Benelux and overseas; and handling opposition work at the EPO. The appointee will enjoy a high profile, full autonomy and extensive client contact, to strengthen and expand their practice in the future.

 

Candidates should have a degree in Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or Physics and be a qualified/part-qualified EPA ideally with Belgian/or other European national qualification, with at least 5 years’ practice in private practice or industry.

 

This key appointment will suit a dynamic and capable Attorney with well developed communication and interpersonal skills, who is realistic and commercial in outlook, possesses and exhibits clarity of thought and has a large measure of common sense.
